Welcome to the
Biblical Garden!

at First Congregational Church
of Fair Haven (Vermont) UCC!

We would like to introduce you to the
Biblical Garden
at Shir Ami - Bucks County Jewish Congregation
in Newtown, PA.
On October 6th of this y ear he Bucks County Jewish Congregation consecrated their biblical gardens.
Co-Chairs Stan Averbach (horticulture) poppopstan@aol.com and Jules Hyman (business) Sirjules1@aol.com
have worked for two years,
making creative plans,
soliciting financial support in many ways,
and made many exciting plantings.
Their rabbis, Elliot Strom and Shira Joseph, have created a beautiful service of dedication
and the booklet recognizes the host of donors who have funded the projects to date.
In a recent visit with Stan he has recounted many creative ideas for designing the garden
and for soliciting the funding.
The gardens surround the synagogue building on three sides beginning with a delightful, winding path that starts at the parking area. Two beautiful Cedars of Lebanon guard the entrance.

Winding up the path visitors pass an array of Biblical plants, marked with signs memorializing beloved family and friends.

Traveling down that path, one encounters the delightful grape arbor also serving as a shelter for two Citron trees

Next the path winds past Earth Box planters making a home for wheat, barley, sorghum, millet, flax, and cotton.

Coming around the corner, we face the star of the garden, a great Cedar of Lebanon,
growing in the shape of the Hebrew letter "shin",
the first letter in the name of the synagogue, Shir Ami

as seen in the logo for this enthusiastic synagogue:

Then moving toward the back side of the building visitors come to the "Grove" home for a generous number of fig trees. Beyond the Grove you will find a wonderful children’s garden. Photos will be available soon!
